Top Gun Fall Service Project

Westwood's Top Gun Men helped Mr. Lee in the Inglenook Community of Birmingham two weekends in October. The men replaced the deck as well as handling some siding and roof issues. Thanks to Brian Woodall and the Top Gun Men for living on mission!

Top Gun is a 34-week intensive discipleship process for men that has involved over 200 men at Westwood.

30-Something Singles at Ronald McDonald House

Our class decided to prepare a dinner for the occupants of the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. This is a house which has 41 rooms to house parents or guardians of children that are in the hospital in Birmingham. Most of the families are from out of the Birmingham area and have no other place to stay except a hotel, which can be very expensive. Some of the families are at this location for an extended period of time and are very appreciative of home cooked meals. Our class provided Baked Ziti, Salad, Bread and dessert. The occupants were very nice and glad we brought them dinner. It is one less thing they have to worry about. The house attendant gave our group a tour of the facility before we left and we also learned of some other items they are in need of at the house. Overall, it was a great day and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the meal and the fellowship.

ABS Class Purchases Donkey for Cuban Pastor

During the One Mission Celebration, the Blended Family Class, led by Dennis and Janet Dickey, were partnered with David Johnson of Doulos Partners. Since then, they have purchased a donkey for a pastor and raised funds for a year's salary ($300), allowing a pastor to work full-time in evangelism, church-planting and discipleship.

By the way, the donkey was named Jannis (the first half of Janice and the last half of Dennis). You figure out which half of the donkey is which.

Ministry to Sav-A-Life

Report from Barbara Haynie ABS Class:

The class recently donated baskets and items for a large number of gift baskets that are given to young women who choose to carry their babies to full term. This is a ministry of Sav-a-Life. One of our members volunteers there and helps put these gift baskets together. On Feb. 21 our class had a Post-Valentine party to which we brought baskets and donated items that completely filled one of the large round tables.

We also regularly donate needed items to the Safe House. At Christmas we donated Walmart Gift Cards to Safe House. We have also made several donations to The Alabama Baptist Children's Home that's located in Alabaster.

Welcome to Groups On Mission

This is the site we've developed to share stories of Westwood's Groups on Mission. Please send us stories and pictures whenever your group does service to the community. We want to use this site to share praise reports about what is going on and to give other groups ideas about how they can make an impact on the community.

Thanks for all you do!
